Quote by Chinese_alanFlannels has been rumored to of been going for years now....I'd be suprised if it lasted another 12 months, anyone else have the same feeling ?
Proof is in the pudding to say that the internet has killed the high street, not many web only shops go bump......do they ?
What about Gavin at Bag It Up, that was a web only site reasonable prices and not a bad selection of brands, went under. Also Paul at Andolini, don't know if he had/has a store but the websitee is more or less finished with no stock being added for yonks. Bad times indeed.
Part of the reason Cabourn prices are so high is because he doesn't have any of his own factories, it's all outsourced. The majority of his jackets are made in Mackintosh factories, they give him a price of how much they want to make a jacket and he just okays it. He could get it made a lot cheaper if he had his own factory, or even quibbled with the price a bit.
Quote by STEVECFCremember bag it up , good store to buy from ..
Gavin was spot on, got quite a bit of stick being from the Leeds area and being a red. Always treated everyone the same and gave a decent discount if you became a regular purchaser.

Aqua/si/paul and shark etc ?? sorta remember it.....vaguely
Bad news Ja, but I am not really surprised to hear that tbh. I think the whole game is changing quickly. Production prices have been going up, that is true. RRPs are now conceived looking at the sales, so that it will still be profitable for the brand at the end of the day. Still, many shops are having trouble shifting gear even at discounted prices. I do believe that the Credit Crunch and the Internet have changed things for good, turning many shops into places where to go and try things on and then purchase them elsewhere at reduced prices. I also think that the future will see more and more direct sales from the brands' websites direct.

What a shithouse way to do business but not a surprise.
That is my opinion of course but it looks like most prices are dream land prices these days so I suppose that is the reason for that.

would explain why the prices seem to be going so high in a worldwide recession
Quote by truebrit87Bought my first Mille from Bag It Up. Great service from him/them.
i got 'banned' by them for sending stuff back - they were measuring stuff for me and ballsing it up. they asked me not to bother ordering anything and i obliged
Quote by Thom^ yeah but when he was in Debenhams it was 1. a different collection to the line he's doing now and 2. Cotton (and other material) prices have only been on the massive rise in the last 6months. *don't you read Monocle Vasque?*
i read couple a month back., cotton prices were falling again. he(cabourn) just takes the piss with pricing, as do most other brands, hardly surprising shops are going, cant remember the last time i paid full rrp, and cant think when i ever will again.
Real real shame that, it was a great store. When I was going out with a girl in Sunderland used to get in there a lot and they sold some cracking gear, staff were sound and I liked the fact they sold suits too.

As far as I know, RRP's are conceived the same way they always have been, by adding a certain markup on at each stage of the process from manufacture to customer. As this thread shows, retailers aren't in a position to start adding an extra percentage on top of what they pay. If they did, competitors would undercut them. It happens to Oi Polloi a lot and yet people moan that they overcharge.
The reason stuff is more expensive these days is partly because during a recession, people are looking to buy stuff that lasts. Stuff that lasts costs more because it uses more expensive materials and labour.
That's just one thing, not the only reason but it's part of it.

It's not, he gets his stuff made in the same factories that a lot of other brands use and using relatively same fabrics and materials. OK there are certain aspects of his clothing that will push the prices up (recreating military clasps etc) but the main reason why Cabourn is high priced is because it sells at that price.
I understand that Mark and I think are so established also and have a customer which do not neccessarily shop around simply because they dont have to, I bit, like how flannels relied on the footy players
