Quote by WhiteyNo ones saying mp3/cd are shit. We just saying that some of us still prefer vinyl.
No but you said that 'true djs' used vinyl implying that those who use other formats were in some way inferior
I've noticed you like to nit pick a lot.
For me a true dj uses vinyl, they can use other formats as well I couldn't give a shit. But he isn't a dj unless he knows how to mix perfectly with vinyl first. Pretty simple really.
There's alot more to DJ'ing than beatmatching on vinyl though fella.
Planning to go into DJ'ing so I can start to perform my music live, but as my songs aren't pressed on vinyl yet ATM. Furthermore, vinyl records are absolutely unaffordable for a poor student like me, so it appears like it'll become a MIDI-controller-based setup.
...A solution would be timecoded vinyl though, but still have my doubts about that.
I'ts vinyl 7" only for me. Convenient to just flip through a recordbag and pick a tune instead of browsing through and then fast forward through lots of tracks on CD, not to mention massive playlists. Then again, most of the tunes I play are old rarities and not available in digital format.

When djing on cdr's mate it's one track per disc, and their all labelled up so no confusion or hassle. If you play on multi track discs you run the risk of the track ending and the next one coming in if you forget to take the fader down. Still got my 45's though, always meant more to me than any recent 12" apart from one. I've not found one record I couldn't get digitally either.

Now I find that amateurish S.
I know my music like the back of my hand...
I expect you don't do that, as I have listened to your mixes and they are rather tight

I've not done that no but that risk is there, I have played channel 2 while channel 1 was playing though while cueing up with my head phones on, but that's just as I was wrecked, everybody makes mistakes or mistimes a beat now and then, that's the fun of it, some (cough soul stylist cough) forget which channel they are mixing with when wrecked and kill the music ha ha, the crowd loved it, it's just little mistakes you do that give the night some character, all good fun
On the other hand, some of my best mixes have come out when I was fucked on the chemicals. Remember playing at a house party for of 'grime' heads, decided to drop Neighbourhood - Zed Bias into a old skool mix and they went ballistic, jumped about fully hooded up.
I've never played not wrecked yet mate, I set about the nights we put on the same as the ones I go to, and enjoy it, you feel the music more anyway under the influence

Will that radio set from last night be appearing as a download at all? Only managed to catch a bit but what I heard sounded good

I honestly believe that the majority of club goers only want to hear good music, all the "special edits" etc are only for the trainspotter types, who ll stand and watch the DJ s mixing..

That doesn't make any sense mac ? some of those "special edits" you talk about are the good music they want to hear, I can't see the point your trying to make ? Plus a lot of records are the originals ?
I hardly ever do any beat mixing since most of the tunes I play (early reggae, rockstead & ska) has some kind of intro (drums, horns, talk...). Oh, off to the club I go :-)
I rather play good tunes bad, than bad tunes good :-D

What I m saying is that the music in its original form is good enogh, all this slow it down, speed it up bollocks, is for the DJs, not the average punters, and the drugged up punters will listen to just about anything, trust me I ve been there, but now I m back to my none drug taking purist form..

"Some" of the original forms are good enough mate yeah I couldn't agree more, but edit's are made to take the best of a record that goes wayward which a lot of the old boogie & disco records do, I'm not talking from a drug taking point of view either, I'm talking from a point of view that a lot of records don't cut it and the work done on them to bring them up to scratch is well worth the effort because it gives a lot of records that you couldn't play out the ability to play them out in a modern society and bring the roof down, nobody stands there staring at the DJ's ? not in any clubs I go to mate sorry but that's way off the mark, they just dance and enjoy the night which is the whole point is it not ?

Quote by dylanI managed to sell 6 records on sunday so there is still a little hope for those of us who love vinyl and wat to wheel and deal a bit.
its hard work though.
I am realy behind the times on all this but I am just getting into the idea of haiving an i-player for the gym loaded with a few hundred tracks on random play.
Do you sell at the fairs?
just seen this question, I sell very occasionally at soul nights and ebay and mostly on a soul music forum.
its nothing serious I just sell a couple of bits as and when I need to after spending most of the last 15 years just buying.
It's a personal thing isn't it, some can see the goodness of various music and different records and some don't, back to my original point that a lot of purists can't see past the end of their nose because they refuse to which is their choice and they like it like that, that's fair enough, but edits are for train spotters ? that's one of the most stupid comments on music I've ever read.

I wouldnt consider myself a purist, but I always think if it aint broke(cliche city) dont fix it. Edits are really for those who were nt there first time around, who need tunes modernising, to make them more palatable, maybe trainspotter was a bad term to use, maybe I m confusing it with samples..
