Quote: STEVECFC wrote in post #203great display by the Italians tonight , much better game , hope they carry on this style of football for the final , and take it to Spain ..
agreed, well deserved
however they cost me three quite hefty bets (first to score, winner, germany to win the thing outright), for that reason I'm done with the bookies until the new football season starts!
Quote: STEVECFC wrote in post #205having never beaten the Italians in major tournaments , clue was in there ... Germans have a tendancy to fluff it against top teams ..
don't know if that's fair - they've won three world cups and three european championships, hardly the record of a nation with "a tendancy to fluff it against top teams"
I'm well aware of their record , and have no doubts they rival Brasil for top team in World football , point I was trying to make was against say Italy especially they have come unstuck , Spain last time around , and this tournament having really blown everyone away , come unstuck again to Italy ..
Thought it stacked up against Italy , 3 games in a week, left back going off early , going down to 10 at 60mins , spanish keeper made a couple of great saves , motta should of started IMO , Spain have some squad to bring on quality like torres and mata against a team of 10 men who are dead on their feet is something no country can cope with , Spain will be on top for years to come , the left back looked outstanding.
Can say what you like about Italy, but ultimately they came up against arguabley the best international side ever who were in the mood. What the fuck can you do?! Certainly no embarrasment in my opinion.
Agree with Dylan about Iniesta. In 20/30 years when the greats of this period are remembered he should be right up there with Zidane, Ronaldinho etc. (as well as the obvious current two at moment).
EURO was a bit boring to watch this year. Italy managed to win by a sloppy goal almost every game and thought Germany will destroy them but was quite surprised with the result and managed to get to the finals.
I was suprised how bad some of the games were .. France were terrible , England were ok , but too predictable .. Holland terrible .. Spain definately worthy winners ..
Brilliant few weeks of football, loved it, watched every group match near enough and other commitments meant i missed lots of the progressive games (Inc the final) I remember watched russia on day 1 and thinking fucking hell these will go far.....How wrong i was, even still, cracking tornument, my favourite ive watched (I'm 18 and the first i watched with a key interest was euro 2004 by the way)
