I'll be over for a couple of days at the end of the month for the Roses gigs. I'm staying in the Northern Quarter and was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to where to drink and eat?
Would be looking for decent pubs to sit about in for a few hours, nothing too up it's own arse with a decent jukebox would be nice. As far as food goes, again nothing too fancy. Also is it worth just sticking to the NQ for nightlife? Looking to avoid the usual shitty pop music/ full of wanker nightclubs, so late boozers or somewhere with decent tunes would be spot on.
theres a little bar/pub in NQ called marble (marble breweries manchester) got a wide range of foreign beers and i had a cracking ploughmans lunch in there too
reached for the secret too soon, cried for the moon.
Bar Fringe, Trof, Common, TV21, Odder, The Castle, Cord and Dry are decent. Bar Fringe and The Castle have a few ales available, also Bar Fringe has a top jukebox.
The nightlife in the NQ isn't bad, the pubs will stay open quite late Blackdog Ballroom is open til 5am, could check the Ruby Lounge out normally has a decent night on.
Last time I was in Manchester, me and my mate went into a bar/resturant right in the centre, near Picadilly, to watch a game. Can't remember what it was called, but when we went in we had to pay £3 each. When we got in, we realised it was African themed and we were the only white guys there. We also then noticed that we were the only two to be charged the £3 entry fee. I ordered 'authentic Nigerian soup', which looked like you would genuinely catch aids if you ate it.
I'm sure all of the above will be a better experience, so thank you.
The Old Wellington is a decent pub, bit pricy though. We went to the piccadilly pub the other week right by station, was a wetherspoons type boozer, was alright.
Quote by Alex DeLargeMe and a couple of others off here are staying in apartments in Salford. Would like some info on places to drink and good clubs too.
Thanks.
Sankey's is quite decent but can have a pretty awful crowd. Not sure if its still there but there was a club called the Attic which was basic but had a great atmosphere, also Joshue Brookes is meant to be decent.
Hunters BBQ is a quality take away if that's your thing too
Can recommend loads of places if you tell me what your preferences are....
Drinking:
The NQ pisses over anything else MCR currently has to offer. Stay away from the usual haunts (currently being ruined by the stag/weekend visting crowds) and you'll have a good night. There are plenty of little bars hidden down dark alleyways that you'll find if you look hard enough. PM me if you want some tips.
Edit: Went in Dry Bar last Saturday for the first time in years and was pleasantly surprised.
Dancing:
I'm strictly a dance music kinda kid, so I can only point you in the direction of some sweaty little underground basement with 200-300 like minded souls. My choice of that weekend would be....
(Upto now) Funkademia at Mint Lounge Oldham Street. It's a good night Funkademia (run by a good mate of mine Les). Lots of women in attendance which is always good, cheap drinks and good party music. You couldnt go every week as its a bit samey but as a one off it'll do the trick. Bouncers are a bit keen so make sure anything you shouldnt be carrying is well hidden. Get there early as its roadblock some weeks and gets full easy.
I say upto now as there's a few nights I know of that haven't confirmed yet.
Graeme Park & Todd Terry are on at Sankey's but the crowd/bouncers/owners at that place are all utter utter cunts so I'd rather have an early night. Even though TT is a great DJ.
Hope that points you in the right direction. If you need owt else then give me a shout.

We was in the piccadilly pub when we went to Stockport was alright in there , Apart from one of the pissed up older lads started a chant and they decided to stop serving us
Quote by nefcbrittons protection is a good pub. the one that used to be a public toilet is worth a visit too
Yep the Britons is a very good pub, a traditional british boozer with good selection of beers. The one that used to be a toilet is called "temple of convienence" and again has a good selection of different ales/beers.
The Temple is frequented by a lot of smelly/sweaty student types at the weekend though so be warned.
In between the these two pubs is a half decent place called http://www.rain-bar.co.uk/ . Owned by JW Lees, its a decent place that has the added advantage of a decent size beer garden at the back (one of the few places in the city where you can sit out).
Perfect for enjoying the Mancunian Sunshine or having a smoke.
Get yourself away from the centre and head to Chorlton for Electriks Bar, Decent hangout for all the misfits, Sunday is a must for their roasts and one deck sessions. Decent clued up proper crowd, Not far at all and well worth the visit with everybody gonna be in the area for the gig. NQ there are a few decent hang outs still left but generally a no no for me unless there is some little soiree been planned.

Electriks is a good call but can be full of pretentious studenty types.
