The whole coaching system in this country has needed an overhaul for a long time, how many technically good players have graced our England team over the past 20 years? Very few.

It doesn't help when 9 year olds are playing on a full size pitch,so called scouts won't take small kids to academy's as there judged not strong enough, even if they are clearly good enough..how many of these 4 year olds actually make the grade that you are talking about?

Yeah the four year old thing is a red herring. It isn't just the age it is how they are coached that matters. Like you say, nippers playing on full size pitches is a joke and the whole culture of kids football needs to change here. It shouldn't be about winning at that age it should just be about playing and yet all these youth coaches take it far too seriously (as do parents) and coach all the ability out of the kids. They get dropped if they don't do what the coach says and it is all a load of nonsense.
The Dutch prove as well that it isn't just about ability neither. They have failed to deliver on numerous occasions, as did the Spanish teams of old as well, when they had teams capable of winning tournaments.
