Thankfully Ellis and I got the results we needed and we're heading of to Hallam and Uni of respectively. So we'll be up in Sheffield, any chance the locals could give us a heads up on the decent pubs, food places etc. Also just stupid things like best place for a trim.
Yeah if you attend on the 15th I'm sure you will experience first hand the best places and much more. Otherwise find out by people who ain't in the know :-)
Well done on the results lads. In terms of nightlife you've got west street and division street which is your main strip of bars in the city center, lots of student bars and drinks offers, not my cup of tea but the green room and old house aren't bad. You've also got ecclesall road which is usually decent night and bird watching central on bank holiday weekends lots of bars, pubs and restaurants to go at. If you're into real ale and dogs in pubs there's kellham island a short walk from the center, im sure me and the lads here will be taking you on a tour round here on the 15th. As for shops to blow your student loans in some advice here - Sheffield
Congrats getting in mate. Sheffield is a great city for a student, I've been to visit my mates there many times over the past few years. My advice would be just go exploring yourself the first week, and do all the stupid fresher crap. It only comes along once and you'll never get that opportunity again.
While on the subject have any residents of Sheffield ever been to the Redcap in Dore? Cheapest pub ever set foot in!
Well done Chaps, should be out for this one, pots getting took off day before hopefully if my metatarsls repaired.
Horse & Hound pretty much summed it up but there's some decent boozers in Sheffield, first time I'd been in Dev Cat, Washington, Green Room thanks to the OffHanders.
Bear & Bungalows is probably still my favourite pub though.
Congratulations on getting in to uni lads. Try and make the most of it! I went to Manchester Uni myself, but looking back on it now I should have done even more than I did.
Anyway, Sheffield. You mentioned a good place for a trim - I go to Taylor Taylor on Division Street (they've got a couple of other shops too in the city) and have been using it for 8 years now. In terms of boozers, most have already been mentioned. Other good real ale pubs are; Rutland Arms (that's down near Hallam), Sheffield Tap (if you're in the train station) and Henry's (near John Lewis).
I'd probably stay off West Street really unless you want a proper student night out. It's a bit tackier.
It tends to be Luke nowadays (gingery blond hair - Derby County fan). Although I've been going down to the shop down near the Town Hall recently, cos it's easier going there after work. Don't know them as well down there.
Cheers lads, I would prefer to stay away from the main student places the majority of the time. Of course I will go there at times but I'm not a huge fan of those types of areas so it's good to hear about these pubs. What am I looking at prize wise for a standard pint in Sheffield?
