the Poppy symbolises Remmeberence Day and the British Legion , I wear one with pride , never known anyone to 'have' to wear one , it's a personal thing ..

I help out selling poppies every year on the street, its actually pretty rewarding knowing you're helping out. In my opinion (and this forum is all about them), only people with an ulterior motive see the poppy as a political symbol. Its a fund to help out ordinary men and women injured serving their country - they don't choose where they are sent, that is down to the politicians for various reasons (ie sometimes justified, sometimes not).

Anyway, wear one or don't wear one, its entirely the person's choice but please don't make it into a political left/right argument.

I shall wear my Poppy with pride just like I do every year.

If people are offended by this then all I can say is 'tough shit'.

Most cities where there is not much money are rundown and do not attract upmarket businesses. That scene is across the UK.
As for the moderate Muslim group who wanted to hold a Quran day at Dewsbury town hall, well they are a group called Qadiani and are not considered as Muslims throughout the Islamic world .This group was formed and funded by the british government and still is.
Their Moto is Love for All Hatred for None, but their books contain nothing but hatred to non Qadianis, they consider Christians to be the dirt under someone's shoe and consider all Muslims to be non Muslims .
That is why there was objection to their so called Quran invitation.

English spirit, what about the rest of the Commonwealth including lots of Muslims from India (pre 1947), check out the names of the men who have VCs. If we'd a bit more welcoming to people we invited over in the 50's and 60's, many of whom had fought along side us in wars, rather than ghettoise people we'd be in a much better position.

Would (and do) much rather live nearer a mosque than a pub, my local had to shut down after shootings, stabbings etc

I live like many in a multicultural part of uk
I've grown up with people from different cultures and beliefs

So Me I'm born and breed in this country. Fish & Chips, Yorkshire Puddings and Football.
Just over 13 yrs ago I went with an Asian friend to his family home in Bolton and stayed the night.
I was treated better than my own family treated me.
Their son wasn't a practising Muslim, they knew he took drugs and was involved in shady dealings. Being his friend they must have had an idea that I was also involved in drugs as well. That didn't matter, they respected me and looked after during the short time that I spent with them. They had very good character and I thought that there is something different about these people. I looked into Islam and I became a Muslim nearly 13 yrs ago.
99.9% of the Muslims in the UK have no time of day for these Poppy Burners/turning up at at events where UK Soldiers coffins are returned home.
These people are complete Nutters.. They thrive on Cheap Publicity and do these stunts to achieve their goal.
There Is not much difference in their speech and the speech of the EDL!

Always worn a poppy, something close to me, also sold them 3 year on trot in the cadets, proud to have done that.

muscabar...not forgeting the title of this thread and as long as ive an hole in my arse do 99,999% of pakistanis muslims not support the poppy burners.... if that was true I would expect there to be thousands of muslims at the remebrance services which we all know there wont be .

Kury I was saying that more than 0001% of muslims supported the poppy burners and that was one example I quoted ... if you want another example when the yorkshire regiment marched through dewsbury town centre on their homecomming parade ..guess how many pakistanis was in the crowds...nil !

As for the family, they didn't turn a blind eye, he lived around 300 miles way , how difficult is it for some parents to control their kids who are living at home, let alone 100's of miles away. It wasn't them that made be become Muslim.

This debate could continue for longtime.
Final point I'd like to make is when I visited Bangladesh in 2007 me and the Bangladeshi group I was with travelled around and one of the places we went to see was the war memorial and graves of British Service men who had died alongside Bangladesh service men.
Don't recall anyone objecting to that visit..

For me the poppy is a means of showing respect as relevant today as it was after the first world war , celebrity endorsements x factor tributes well deserved in my opinion/unbalanced mind
