just seen something on another board about young cadets selling poppys in bradford going to be given security after the abuse they got last yearwhat a sad state of affairs, this country is really fucked, total and utter disgrace
It is a disgrace, I live in birmingham and there is a large community of Pakistani's I also work with Pakistani's and a very high proportion of them make it quiet clear they hate us! I was talking to a young Pakistani lad in his 20's who is very much westernised when not with his family and he said there taught that any non Muslim should not live. That hate our ways and our women,,,,,,it amazes me how the fuck this country as allowed this to openly happen It makes me laugh the younger lot think the country owes them ! I'm sick of it I am not a racist but this country was once a great Britain, we got through 2 world wars on the back off the English spirit,,,,,,we would have no chance now! My grandad who passed away 2 years ago always said it makes you wander who actually came out the war better............
Live life to the full and enjoy, try and help people who havn't got as much as you, you never know what tomorrow will bring!!!!
I remember the one twat last year who was burning poppies should have been hung drawn & quartered all he got i think was a slap on the wrist & a 50 quid fine & he said he would do it again!

English spirit, what about the rest of the Commonwealth including lots of Muslims from India (pre 1947), check out the names of the men who have VCs. If we'd a bit more welcoming to people we invited over in the 50's and 60's, many of whom had fought along side us in wars, rather than ghettoise people we'd be in a much better position.
Would (and do) much rather live nearer a mosque than a pub, my local had to shut down after shootings, stabbings etc
I reckon this is one of those EDL scare stories.
There's twats everywhere, in all racial and social groups, and respect works both ways.

I live like many in a multicultural part of uk I've grown up with people from different cultures and beliefs Out of all the people I have met and befriended the only people that do not want to be part of western ways are pakistani people. Even if they wanted to become their own families would disown them.... I respect they follow their religion etc but what I do not respect is arrogance and ignorance which as a whole they are. I'm only going on my 42 years experience living in a multicultural city........
Live life to the full and enjoy, try and help people who havn't got as much as you, you never know what tomorrow will bring!!!!
I agree with the commonwealth and others fighting to win the war etc, and yes it's taken a long time for them to be recognised for it..... But if you ask me the reason this country is fucked is because now we are too accommodating ......

In Dewsbury we have the most impotant mosqque in europe for the radical deobandis before they build the new super mosque in west ham. recentley a moderate muslim group from west yorkshire wanted to open the koran up to us kufars(non believers) in a seminar at dewsbury town hall to promote peace and harmoney.. the mosques in dewsbury said NO ...and if they did they would not be responsible for any rioting in the town. on the advice of west yorkshire police the event had to be cancelled as police could not guarantee the safety of the local MP and other guests who was going to attend.....religion of peace?? I can tell you different.....http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q...Qgu5U-KCFo5DnqA

Great post.. It's always important to contextualise things; it's never a simple case of good versus bad.. there's a load of cunts within every race/ethnic group as well as a lot of good people.
This is a photo of Bradford city center i took on a Saturday afternoon this year, there were 5 or 6 stalls like this promoting with signs degrading women.
The corner shop thats got the shutters down used to be Fattorinis who made the current F.A cup, most decent named shops close or don't come to Bradford ( i believe) because of its "multicultural" reputation, nice if you like poundshops though.
Not scaremongering or owt with the photos and i'm no EDL wanker either, but i left Bradford because its a fucking dump unless you can get out a fair few miles.
'there's a load of cunts within every race/ethnic group as well as a lot of good people.' this was actually the first draft of mcartney and wonder's worldwide smash, 'ebony and ivory'

why do you think this? 'most decent named shops close or don't come to Bradford ( i believe) because of its "multicultural" reputation'
"there were 5 or 6 stalls like this promoting with signs degrading women"
That sign says "Discover why women embrace Islam 4 x more than men". Where is the bit that degrades women?
Love the irony of complaining that a jewellery shop, opened by Italian immigrants, has closed down due to multiculturalism. The Birmingham branch of Fattorinis is still going well- btw, anyone know if there are any muslims in Brum?
As for the poppies anyway- I'd imagine the reason most Pakistanis aren't mad keen on them, is that the allies are still using unmanned drone planes, controlled by computer from the US, to drop bombs on Pakistan.
(As of October 10, 2012) Total strikes: 347 Total reported killed: 2,572 – 3,341 Civilians* reported killed: 474 – 884 Children reported killed: 176
Knew someone would mention that, the other banner with the smaller writing on had a list of things which were alledgedly better for European women and is the way Muslim women live,i went back quarter of an hour later and there were 2 young white women argueing with the stall holder about it,womens rights etc.

Glad you like the irony but i was hardly complaining was i ?
Have you ever been to Bradford? There are no decent shops that i can think of,the council flattened all the old arcades not disimilar to the ones in Leeds and built tasteless concrete efforts in there place, knock on effect of that is most people go to Harrogate,Leeds and the outskirts of Leeds. Big shops just don't want to open in Bradford,if Birminghams different fair enough. And i'm quite aware that it isn't only Bradford that has Muslims but thanks for pointing it out.
By the way, from the early 80s when i was on scooters to England games away early 2000 if you mention you're from Bradford you nearly always get "why aren't you a paki" or "wheres your pakis".Thats Bradfords reputation, and rightly or wrongly thats why I believe,(I put I believe in brackets last time in case you missed it) there is a lack of investment form larger well known stores. Also think you should visit the place yourselfso you can pass you're own judgement.
I wear a poppy for the men and women who have given their lives so that we can live in a free and democratic society today. If people do not like that then they should respectfully keep their opinions to themselves the same as I have to about their beliefs. Not a racist comment but a comment in respect to those from all sides who have fallen.

Maybe a photo of the other banner would have backed up your point a bit more? I was just commenting on the bit I can see.

I'm not disputing Bradford's reputation- I think multiculturism is probably a bit strong in fact, you hear the name you immediately think of the Pakistani community there.
That could be the reason that good shops don't want to open in the town centre, I don't know. You say that the council made some bad decisions and flattened a load of old buildings, knocking the character out of the place- that could be the reason too. I'm originally from Doncaster, the town centre there is dying on its arse too- a lot of people blame the parking restrictions, (there's not really a big asian population), maybe it's just a trend for people doing most of their shopping in Supermarkets, online or at big out of town shopping centres? I don't know.

Fair comment.
I'll be wearing a poppy with pride- to me it represents the sacrifices made in the war. I was just trying to say that other people might take issue with it because it represents something else to them.
Quote: UncleAlbert wrote in post #19Perhaps those Pakistanis who are so against Poppies would sooner be living in a Nazi Britain?
Probably not, but the main source I could find relating to the story, The Daily Mail, certainly would. The newspaper which ran an article titled "Hurrah for The Blackshirts!", and only recently supported Marine Le Pen in the French elections.
Besides, the article makes reference to three attacks, and only one reference to race (indeed Asian, not Pakistani or Muslim as some have assumed here), and in that case the age of the attackers is stated as "11 or 12". To state that the country is fucked on the basis of what is probably at most a bit of schoolyard "our lot and your lot", is fairly misrepresentative. Even so, while the poppy might represent the fight against fascism, or the horrific loss of life in the first world war, to one person, it might equally represent relentless imperialism to another. Of course, it's irrefutable that the British armed forces have played a part in both, but it's the same unbalanced mind that ignores one and shouts the other, on either side of the spectrum.
Quote: Turnstyle wrote in post #23" it might equally represent relentless imperialism to another."
who is that then ?
Iraqis, Irish, Afgahns, Argentinians and that's just in the past 30 years.
I feel that the poppy has lost a lot of its original meaning and symbolism.. It has been used as a rallying point in recent years to whip up support and glamourise recent conflicts. What was once a sombre symbol of reflection of those young men who were used as pawns by governments and sent to their death.. has, ironically, now became a campaign which boosts recruitment each year for the army (enlistment peaks every year around rememberence day) and glamourises war (Xfactor tributes, celebrity endorsements etc).
It's a shame, I've been to the battlefields in Belgium and France and the symbolism of the poppy there is far removed from what it is in current British society.*
*Not saying that this is applicable accross the board, many choose to wear a poppy out of genuine respect, not because of what's been described by many, including veterans, as "poppy fascism".
