Hi. Any member on here who pumps Iron. Been training for 3 yrs now and still love aggression when strength goes through the roof. Train 3 times a week with Cardio done on non training days. Try to keep a clean diet but pretty hard with my love of biscuits. Please post some info if you hit the Gym. Always good to hear some diet or training info.
6 months in Thornton, Fife. The other 6 months in Aracaju, Brazil
Just started going to the gym about 3 months ago after seeing a picture of me from my holidays, looked like a budah. I go three times a week to gym and days in-between hit the treadmill. Diet has just been eating healthier, crisps are my down fall and tins of lager every night so all that shits been stopped. I've came from 15 stone down to 13 1/2 so just about at a point were I'm happy.
Thats good. I was the opposite. Smoking for years, gave up 2007, hardly drinking water, only tea and coffee. Water increases our natural Growth Hormone output which declines has we get older. That's why people who drink good amounts generally have good skin and look healthy. I always had problems putting on weight. Was 9 1/2 Stone when I started training, which at 5 feet 10 I looked thin. Now at over 11 stone and aiming for 12 Stone.
I go but mainly just try to keep fit. Although, the muscles on my legs are quite mental, somehow. I drink about 3 litres of water a day, it really does help. But makes you piss about ten times a day.
I train weights and box, there is one simple rule to follow and that is " your body represents your lifestyle " there's no easy option for results you need to adapt it as part of your life. Varied workouts every 8 weeks, and eat properly. Depending in your goals there other principles.
I need to get to the gym I was eating a lot of high protein meals basically just steak and chicken every night for dinner and lost about 2 stone but noticed I stopped losing weight while still eating the same as before so was told I need to go to the gym whilst eating high protein... If anybody could advise a decent weight loss routine whilst building muscle as well would be appreciated... Specially if you could advise it in layman's terms lol....

weight loss and building muscle at same time must be almost impossible ?

See I don't have a clue lol... The closest I've got to a gym is walking past one on the way to kebab shop....

you need to get to a weight you are happy with before you think about building muscle , losing weight is easier than building muscle (without drugs) Run , do basic circuts and eat a fair balanced diet and you will lose weight in no time, once your happy with your weight then you can start thinking about building muscle.

I'm not too fussed about building muscle tbh just want to get down to about 14 1/2 stone...
Eat Clean Carbs and Protein. Avoid sweet and fried foods. Lots of Cardio. I advise you to train doing high reps and not go too heavy with the weights. You should see change in a few months with good work put in.

Out of interest how much times should you go down the gym a week if you want to get into shape?
It can vary from person to person and what they want to achieve. Professional body builders and non pro tend to train 3 times a week. 45 min of a good workout is all that is required. I have a mate who does 2 hour session, I haven't come across any pro Body Builder who does that. I am what is called a hard gainer as It hard for me to put weight on. 3 times week is all I need and I do cardio on days off. If one wants loose weight they can do 3 days or even more a week.
i lift weights have done for half my life.. theres no quick fix unless you take steroids but you should see good gains after a year traing 3 times a week, after that the gains will slow but your strength will still increase if your training right, i enjoy it if you dont your wasting your time, dont get to caught up in the protien-carbs palava, just try and increase your protien and dont eat to much shit and throw in a shake first thing and one for bed, remember you can only intake 30 grams a sitting out else just increases your kite dont agree with the 45mins bit if you want your strength to increase and inturn put weight on you need to lift heavy-lifting heavy means a good rest between sets 3-5 mins so you will get nowt from a 45min workout legs for me today that will take about 70 minutes

thats good advice about taking a good long rest between sets.
on any muscle I try and do around 10 to 12 sets. Most of the hard work is probobly done in the first 6 to 8 working sets and then some lighter stuff to finish off.
always a couple of light sets to get warmed up as well, don't rush in to the heavy stuff.
Starting to get into it all again myself actually after seeing that i am now fat and lazy. I used to box, run and lift years ago. Firstly, incase you don't know... You can't change fat into muscle, it is a myth. You all probs know that but just incase... Therefore, if you are slightly tubby through the unactive lifestyle like myself currently, get some cardio or road/drill running done. then break yourself in on the weights, always remember to start off lightly on yourself and increase over time, this includes time doing it, times a week, reps and weight... Add both together and over time you should see benefits.
BTW, reason why i haven't mentioned diet is due to there already being info from other members on that which is quite good, but everything is individualised to your own body so see what you like best and what works best.
Also agree about the rest period between!! I have never really used mainstream gyms as they aren't my thing, but on the times i went with friends to help out, gyms are full of people bouncing around without a clue doing everything far too fast and therefore decreasing their strength too quick. Take your time.
For me the 45 min routine works. But its Horses for Courses with training. Lots of opinions in many different camps. End of the day it is what works best for an individual. Has one trains they will find out what works best for them. One very important factor is getting a good nights sleep.

without a doubt everyones different but if your after getting heavier, slow and steady is the key i still do quick routines but its more to shock the body if you want to grow do the basics squat deadlift, military press - flat bench as heavy as you can and forget about the rest, give it ago it will do you good
