10 of us heading up for a lads birthday, on the 9th march..
staying in birmingham central travelodge, led to believe it's a stones throw away from broad street, where's best to go? anything on that night? (and no not kaskade at gatecrasher)
Not for me, personally, in the slightest, but for a mixed crew on the smash I'd recommend Broad St. If you want real ale pubs/high end restaurants or late night rave dens I can recommend some good places.
Think Jonah can also put you onto a special place if a fair few of you agree Broad st not the best option but then depends, We ended up on Deansgate in Manc last outing which I soon left.
Face/2:31 is good, but thats a house night...Thats at the rainbow in the arse end of the city.....The rainbow would of been perfect if there was an 'annie mac presents' night on as thats more radio 1 stuff than underground, probably more suited to a mixed crowd !!
Moving on, As stupid as it sounds, Gatecrasher would be your best bet with a mixed bunch, its not cheap to get in (£10 at least on a saturday) so you get a different crowd to the usual broad street places I.E no stag and hen parties, but then again, if you want a shag you're better off going to places like that....Gatecrasher its £5 a drink at minimum so if money is an issue, simply dont bother.
I've been to most of the clubs on broad street and none of them are any good in fairness (Risa, Bliss, Walkabout), I haven't been to ibiza but i presume Gatecrasher is ripping them off in terms of design etc....Very big and open and air conditioned which is probably the best part about it. With your travelodge if you want something within a stones throw away stick to broad street.
If you want one of those "I flash cash but have no assets" places, Mechu, Bambu or Bushwackers, all strict on dress code, if they dont like the look of you, you wont be getting in.
If i was advising someone from outside the city on a night out on a budget I'd say get wankered at a wetherspoons (plenty to choose from) or one of the other chain pubs, and then go to snobs, I've had some emmense nights there, what a place, stuck in the 80's but if indie is your cup of tea, Go there, drinks are cheap (usually £1.50 bottles of beer), entry is £5, and the music is what you'd want if you're into indie.
Are you on a budget ? Whats the general music taste ?
Broad Street is a bit toss IMO (although if you're wankered it can be entertaining) Last time I was over there before Xmas we headed out to the jewellery quarter where there's some cracking bars and proper boozers with a decent dressed crowd but best to have a local guide with you. We did a few bars then ended up in a place called the Arches that has loads of little alcoves with VIP tables full of snatch, then on to a club called Mechu. It can be a twat to get in here though so be warned. They won't let you in mob handed so split into 2's/3's, try and tap something up in Apres next door and you're laughing. Basically it's full of people who think they're somebodies but amongst them there's a lot of "grown up now" clubbers as well as a good fill of older (read gagging) divorcees/singles that are pretty up for it. Proper-Club wise, not been on it for a bit there but used to do the Arcadian centre / Chinese qtr visiting a club called Hidden although not sure if it's still there ? Had some cracking pilled/coked up nights there a good few years back. If you want lappie, there's shit loads in Brum, all the Broad Street ones are in it for as much cash as they can, dances aren't enough, they want you upstairs for "special" dances that aren't apart from taking >£150 off you... All in all, I quite like it there, you'll have a laugh regardless - enjoy Turtle'll come on to tell you more as I believe he's a bit of a lad and has far more experience and local knowledge than me :-)
Edit: as Chinese Al says above - Hidden was at the venue Bambu
not really on a budget, done gatecrasher before, don't fancy it again.
probably start at walkabout/spoons but wont want to finish there. Music taste varies from acid house to 'indie' - arctic monkeys kasabian etc, you get the drift,

broad st dosen't sound my thing, but the rest of the lads will probably like it.
last time this lad (his birthday) was out in a different city, he spent 100+ on a lappy, bit of belly button and rib cage and then they told him to fuck off haha, that should be interesting.
don't fancy that menchu, seeing as theres a good 10-12 of us, and i'm not 18 anyhow so it seems like itll be more hassle then its worth.

The way me and Scooby have warned you off mechu will tell you all you need to know about that place !! Its good on a student night though (Thursdays), the talent is unreal !!
Snobs is about as far from your travelodge is as gatecrasher is (or thereabouts) in terms of walking, it's reported to be shutting soon so if you go it'll probably be the last time too !! Its hidden away under a scaffold clad birmingham across a dual carriageway, next to a greek resturant that doubles up as a kebab shop at 3am !! Just watch the outside for pickpockets if you go, but you'll have a blast if your into that type of music, the smaller room plays literally everything in the way of music, I'll give you an example though, if your pals are into avici, disclosure and all that mainstream dance, dont bother with snobs !!
Maybe us local chaps are beating up broad street because the novelty value is not there ?? Give it a try you never know, as thats where you'll get the places that satisfy the taste !!
Is your Fake I.D any good ? You'll get I.D'd everywhere so if you aint got one, get one or dont bother mate it wont be worth the trip !!
Arcadian is good, but expensive, £9 for a single vodka red bull i once paid there...so my mate told me !!!
If i was you I'd end your night at spearmint rhino. Your mate will love it £60 and you can touch em.
I think the problem with Broad Street is, its become stale over the years and imo its better suited to the warmer weather. The figure of Eight aint a bad place to start, probably the cheapest pint on the Street, might pay you to load up in there before moving on. The Arcadian in China Town is a good shout for a night out and a place of interest would be a bar called Missing, just around the corner from the Arcadian, at least one of you should get a tug in there!

If you get a £20 taxi to West Brom - Fantazia (I think it's called) you can touch 'em for £20 !!! I've had a bit more on occasion too [/quote]
Is that the one upstairs P, called Fantasia? Used to be sound in there, six quid to get in after 10 and get your fingers wet for a tenner! There's a newer one opened over the road called Angels, 20 quid for a private dance......so i'm told! Or you can nip round the corner to the local Wetherspoons, The Billiard Hall, the local talent will sort you out for half a lager.
On the odd occasion I go into the b'ham centre I start the night in The Lord clifden just outside the jewellery qtr on constitution hill, good beer and food, some decent music and women (at times) great little beer garden with outside bar and tv for sports events, even has a table tennis table down the bottom. Then onto the jam house in jewelry qtr which is usually so busy on the dance floor you can grope all night long - has website so can check what band are on. Mixed age groups at both of these. Havn't been on broad st for few years seemed more for Asian's last time I was there.
No Lakota in brum, I'm pretty sure that's Bristol too.
Fantazia west brom scooby :-) what a hole, a good hole, but what a hole. My old local in West Brom which was our main boozer over the years is a Lap place now too after the old bill shut it down. It's a right dive up there, it always was really but town served a purpose. Eye opening now.
By sounds of your mates I'd go with the majority vote of broad street and then snobs, sounds about what you want.
