What's your point?
My point was that it has happened before, and if he's a legend your easily pleased

easily pleased Wisey was a very underrated player. Was a commanding presence in a team that contained people like De Matteo, Zola, Petrescu, Gus Poyet, etc.... so he had something going for him. I'm sure Gullit is on record giving gushing praise to Wiseys role in our fortunes back then. And he decided to come to Chelsea when were a mediocre club so cant acuse of him of following the glory.
We'd be twice the team now with him playing in the Makalele role instead of Mikel.

I was very easily please watching little Dennis , especially in a 5-0 win over UTD where he nipped at Scoles or Butt and got them sent off .. Was fantastic player for us , never gave up .. little Jack Russell of a person ..

Apologies for not commenting sooner mate, as you maybe aware I'm not one for expressing an opinion on a Chelsea related thread.
However, I feel I need to vent my spleen on the subject of Wise. I really feared for Chelsea when that odious, talentless little newt Wise no longer Captained your club, enter John Terry, he's taken Captaining Chelsea to another level.

a ''very average player''?.....based on watching him all of what? twice a season.

Dempsey is clearly very bitter. Wise was a quality player, he sprayed the ball around with both feet, good touch and tenacious in the tackle. His midfield battles with the likes of Viera and Keane were brilliant. He lead Chelsea to our most successful era pre-Abramovich. Definitely underrated by people outside Chelsea but he still managed 21 caps for England in a strong era for midfielders.

Not as good as either but he won plenty battles against them. Viera was double his size but it didn't show on the pitch, he got stuck into him every time.
You do come across bitter. Where did I claim he is better than them?
You're talking about him like he was shit and that just isn't true, he was a good footballer. You don't know much about football if you think he was shit.

This. To even attempt to put Wise in the same bracket as them two is an insult. That isn't to say Wise wasn't a good midfielder, he was, but Keane and Viera were proper world class, several levels above Wise.

The thing about Wise is he was a cunt. But he was our cunt and became a cult figure at the club at a time. Ludicrous to suggest he joined Chelsea for the money, football was a very different animal when Wise signed for Chelsea. Had great hopes back in 89 when he was signed along with Andy Townsend. Had the makings of a decent side, two back to back top 6 finishes and then it went a bit pear shaped for a while. He was a QPR fan as a kid and Rangers fans used to thrown stuff like cabbage at him when he played at Loftus Road - his parents had a green grocers in Shepherds Bush.
Wise was a decent midfielder, a complete pest who gave everything for the cause. He was not, however, in the same class as Vieria or Roy Keane. Keane, for me, is still the most influential player in the history of the Premiership. He had standards on the pitch and expected his team mates to reach that standard every time he crossed the white line.

You mentioned being bitter before anything was said about Keane,as for knowing nowt about football that's your opinion but please tell me how I'm bitter
Who suggested Wise was as good as Viera or Keane? unless I'm mistaken, I can't see anywhere that anyone has suggested Wise was as good as either. The point, unless I'm mistaken, that Nothavinit was making is that he was able to compete with them both in midfield battles, making a case that he was a bit more than a below average midfielder. The reason I said he was underrated was having watched him at close quarters very regularly for many years and having watched the variety of world class midfielders we've had since, Wiseys consistent displays for us more than stands up to some midfielders who came to us with big reputations, big CV's or big transfer fees hanging over them. That seems to be a widely held view amongst Chelsea fans given the amount who value his contribution he made on the park for us. We finished 4 points off top in 99 with a midfield of Wise, Petrescu, Poyet and De Matteo playing some of the best football I've seen from us over my life supporting the club. And that was right in the middle of the Arsenal 98 double-Utd 99 treble sides.
Doesn't really matter in the scheme of things. All about opinions. And Chelsea lads love him. That's all that matters really.
