Try to get to the gym 3 times a week, always do core, weights then run/bike. Bike usually about 10km and run 5km.
Lost a little bit of weight but it's overcome from the weight training. I've just stopped eating crap, less carbs more meat and veg really. Can see improvements quickly if you're strict.
Quote: crazy titch wrote in post #25 That's what I am trying I can do the 5k easily but anything over or around the 10k mark I am blowing out my arse badly and need to stop finding the progression from shorter distances to the slightly longer a slog.
Bit obvious, but slow down. I find it hard not to run way too fast, especially at the start of a 10k- takes real effort to forget about pace, relax, breath, have a look around at the scenery.
One thing that really worked for me in training was to run for 40 minutes (or 45, or 50 etc.) rather than do a particular distance. That way you're not trying to get round the course and get it done ASAP, you're just learning to be patient and stay on your feet.
That's a good point actually never thought about it like that, I am trying to do the extra 5k at the pace I normally run, I'm planning to head out tomorrow so will give it a blast.
Annoying now in the summer as I have a real hang up about my compression trousers (basically leggins) I always feel it keeps my knee nice and tight and doesn't hurt but when I don't wear it, I feel like knee hurts.
Do you have a park run nr you, just google it and will bring up the nearest to you,is run by volunteers from running clubs every weekend and they time the distances, there are 100s across the country,a good way to get your times down as they are attended by all levels of runners.....

Get a lycra knee support ( one with a knee hole) I wear one after having keyhole on my knee and I sound a similar build to you also keeps knee secure your right sometimes it's psychological when you leave a support off.
Be careful what you dream of it may come up and surprise you.

these are great have one in Norwich with hundreds of runners at all levels.

I started running 2 months ago after not runnng for 20+ years. Apart from at 5s but tbh didn't do that much running as most days was still drunkor hungover.
Where does the knee hurt? I built up distances too quickly and had a spot of ITB syndrome but wearing a strap on (oo-er) sorts it out and using a foam roller too.
You've just reminded me that I haven't posted on here re my running.....so watch out for a thread later ;-)
