i do a bit mate, started going the gym and hitting the treadmill doing 5/10k mainly. I try and get out and about now i live very close to the west pennine moors and have started trail running. Been laid up for the past week and a half with a bad back and hamstring trouble so chomping at the bit to get out
too old / chubster to run , but walk a lot with dogs , best advice is buy good pumps , used to walk in some old Adidas , but bought some Asics , and my feet and legs are much better ..
good advice mate, i wear some inov8 trainers for offroad and nike lunarglide 4 for the roads. Your best bet is get to a running shop and try loads of diffrent shoes on. i also spend a few quid on decent socks otherwise the blisters fucking kill me
Fuck that!! Loads of idiots pounding the roads round sheffield, sucking in the car fumes while hammering their joints and you never see any of them smiling!
Not a runner myself but a few mates are big into it and a couple of the lads I ride with are into Triathlons, I know they swear by getting a proper trainer fit which echo's the above comments.
Get out four or five runs a week. Between three to five miles. Always sorts my head out when done a run. Done a 10k and half marathon, as already said get decent pair of runners. One of those Garmin watchs is money well spent.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions
Same as couple here 4-5 miles 3 times per week if you fancy aiming for something bit less boring than road running did this a couple of months back www.thewolfrun.com and plenty more advertised at www.muckyraces.co.uk really good fun and sense of achievement when done.
Be careful what you dream of it may come up and surprise you.
I got proper running shoes, tried loads but went with the Nike Free Run 3+ 5.0 almost no joint pain after the first week of using them.
I've shed a good load of weight just finding it hard to get past the weight I am at just now with just running and not into weights at all so just wanting to see if I can push longer distances more frequently.

Fat loss is all about what you eat, exercise has health benefits but the role it plays in fat loss is minimal.
I keep myself to a calorie controlled diet and with exercise it works I'm just assuming that now I am not as heavy that it's not as 'easy' to lose weight as it once was.

bit of truth it in, i mix up the running sessions with indoor rowing and some punch bag / shadow boxing with some core work and get on the whey protein shakes (couple per day) and this pulls the weight down. Do you watch the carbs? cutting down bread in particular gets the weight off for me also.

I don't even run for the ice-cream van nowadays! Wish I had the time to get to the gym again to be honest but with the Bairn I reckon it's going to be a good few months before I get some time to myself again..

Carb restriction is the most effective means of losing weight. Cut it to 50g or less a day, eat plenty of natural fat and protein and the weight will fall off.
Quote: crazy titch wrote in post #17Cheers lads, yeah I watch my carb intake, never taken any shakes at all any info on them don't know where to start with those.
I use impact diet whey shakes off myprotein.com, there's plenty of advice on their's and other nutritional websites on what helps you achieve your goals.

used to run loads when i was in my 20's . the 10ks and 5ks and did a half marathon too. the running shop near me have a tread mill with a camera to film your running technique to make sure you get the right shoes which is really important. training wise i used to find interval workouts really good which is sprint for 2-3 minutes then rest then sprint etc. handy if you dont have much time to train and got a race coming up

I know you've said you don't like weights but its unlikely you would loose weight doing them anyway. You'd porbably put weight on if you hit the weights. Muscle weighs more than fat.
but your shape would change for the better.
as already said diet is a big part in it as well.
my main problem is I drink too much at the weekend.
I've cut right back on the bevy these days too as I've said in the other thread I lost around 5 stone but it's just shifting the last bit that's proving the most testing and now I am enjoying running I want to maybe do a proper 10k and that stuff.
I'll start looking into the protein shakes just not too sure what ones to go for as on that site there are loads, cheers again guys
just get a whey protein bud, just to provide additional sources. optimum nutrition do a good 100% gold standard whey. I use it daily with porridge oats, pancakes etc. Good stuff.
Losing 5 stone is good going Crazy T. Wouldn't bother with any of that protein shakes unless you are wanting to build up muscle. Sounds like the running and what your doing at moment is working. I would just concentrate on building up your weekly mileage.

Thanks, yeah it's some difference, found an old XXL jumper that was skin tight on me before, now looks like a 3 man tent [smile]
That's what I am trying I can do the 5k easily but anything over or around the 10k mark I am blowing out my arse badly and need to stop finding the progression from shorter distances to the slightly longer a slog.
