I've got a 70k canoe / bike / trek challenge penciled in for September. Did one in the Lakes last year which almost killed me. This one in the Brecon Beacons sounds even worse!
last one was 8am to 7pm, think this one could be a lot longer unfortunately. Especially with the trekking sections, my knees feel like they're made of hardboard and nails
Can't get going at the moment - too much footie on the tv - meant to go out last night ended up watching Chelsea V Moan Utd. Then couldn't get out of the bed this morning so need to go Friday early and get in a long one Sunday - try and do 8 miles. Once I'm out and away I don't mind running but know what you mean about boring. Tried road bike but found that real hard especially up here in the winter - always bloody windy and raining.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions
I was supposed to run a half-marathon earlier this year.. But two weeks before I had a injury (damaged fibre in my knee, hurts a lot!), which means I couldn't participate.. It took me six weeks to get over the damage, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch on the training. But I will run a half-marathon this year, that's for sure.
I've mostly been running 5 km's before, where my record is 16min 42sec.

Can't really do running, bores the shit out of me[/quote]
that sounds quality, have you got a link to the organisers website?

These are the guys that sorted last years Distant Horizons You can tailor your event to pretty much whatever you want. Was very impressed with the organisation.
Not sure what's happening with this years. It's all done by my boss at work, he's an ex-marine and current GB Triathlon Team Member, and a cruel bastard.
I'm running the Great Midland Fun Run in June. It's only 8.5 miles but is quite a tough route through Sutton Park which has a few tough hills. I've done it about 5 times and my best time was 1 hour 5 mins but this year I will be happy with 1 hour 20 mins as I'm feeling really old and haven't done much training. If I keep up with my training through the summer I might enter the Birmingham half marathon in September.
Im thinking of it, begin training for a half. Havent been doing much cardio this A/W except for some muay thai. I've also gained back 16 pounds in the gym, so running aint that great for my knees.
New Nike Lunarglides + nikepod has been bought for this spring though, so it MIGHT happen.

bloody hell i do that in almost double that time. and im sweating like a bugger at the end. running is boring though.
16 mins for a 5Km is fucking rapid - nice one. My PB is 18 mins
I have been running for as long as I can remember - running races for the last 10 years - did the ironbridge half last march, my third time - very tough course - in 1.40. My half PB is 1.35 in Birmingham - which I have run every year since the start. I have one marathon under me belt - 3.46.
However my knees are fucked - cant run, drive or sit even for too long and the quack is having trouble diagnosing it!
Doing a 100 mile walk this June - so been training for that. talked about it here
Not training for a marathon, but in my younger years i would have ran to the end of the earth. Put a shed load of weight on in the last 5 years since my 40th birthday but have lost over 2 stone since the 18th of January & i'm feeling the fittest i've felt in a long time. To be honest i wouldn't rule out a 10k if i thought my old knees would take it.

I used to do quite a lot in my younger days, Triathlon was my sport. The Yorkshire dales Quad and Tri was a tough one. That would be a good one for you Mersons Bookie. The bike is a killer very steep hills and the run is up a mountain and back down.
1/2 marathon is a good distance to aim for and when I started I was always told it's the time out during training not the speed or distance. Get used to running for over an hour and build it up. Once your out for for 2 hours work on speed and get hill work in as this really does build stamina. You should be doing 1 long run a week and 2 shorter ones. The shorter ones is where you can get speed and hill work in. Good luck with your run.
My PB for 1/2 was 1;38 but would be lucky to finish one now.

Nice one, something I'm going to look into. Planning on doing a sea kayaking trail round the South-West later this year but wouldn't mind trying my hand at a triathlon event in time too. Can imagine going into it with an ex-Marine is a bit daunting, no time for slacking!

Cheers for the tips/advice. I'm up to about 1 hour 20 mins and about 8 miles.
