so, what was your first car then?

I'm trying to find a a car that's cheap on the insurance, as the quotes I've been getting are astronomical!

Im a full on retro car lover, so even though I knew it would bankrupt me, still had to had one of these for my first car -

Haha, they're good cars! It had power steering and everything. The sound system ended up being worth more than the car.

One of my mates had a Audi TT (Hairdresser's Car I may add) while I had a Nissan Bluebird Executive. Lets just say he ended up with more scrattle then me...

me nan's old renault 5. i was 23-ish and always skint but it was cheap to run, only ever put about £3 of petrol in at a time. flogged it to a mate who was similarly skint. he thought the petrol light was the 'everythings ok' light as it had never switched off while he owned it. he flogged it to another mate who couldnt understand that you have to coax a 950 engine up a hill. he destroyed it.

I'm 17, got a mini myself, tidy little car. Not driving it yet though, doing it up abit, then will drive when I'm 18/19.

never owned a car. Never needed to own one.

Can always borrow or rent the few times i need a car and i cant justify spending the money on it when there is no need.

Work is 10 min away in bus and i live dead center of the city i live in

Mine was a 1986 VW Jetta. Built like a tank but it had a 1600 engine so moved when it needed to. I ran it into the ground, had about 130,000 miles on it before I traded it in for a Honda Civic.

I've been quoted 5,000 on some insurers..

How did you pay that little?

03 corsa. Not a fan but its all I can afford with the sky high insurance etc. It's a 1.2 and I pay 1100 as a named driver, my dad being the main driver. He never drives it though, makes it a lot cheaper. On my own, it would have been 3k a year to insure..

Ford escort Series 1 1.6i cabriolet 1985 , put rs turbo recaros ,18 inch alloys and a pioneer top of the range ice system, loved it and my insurance was free as the trade policy at work covered sdp, i passed in 1989 when i turned 17 which seems a very long time ago , my second car was the best a 3 door mark1 escort 1972 xl( wood dash) which i left standard but put a 2 ltr pinto and 5 speed sierra box in ,mad motor as i left the standard 135x13 tyres on it , wheel span in all 1 st 3 gears and got me into loads of near death experiences, then i bought a 325i sport and smashed in backwards into a lamppost , so calmed me down very quickly .

Mk 1 ,1 ltr corsa is about the cheapest to insure atm , i sold stacks last year to new drivers , as modern as u can expect to insure atm
