A group of Muslim protesters set fire to an American flag outside the US embassy in London during a minute's silence to mark the moment that the first hijacked airliner hit the World Trade Center 10 years ago. A number of radical Islamic groups including Muslims Against Crusades (MAC) gathered outside the embassy on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. The group of around 100 men shouted "USA terrorists", brandished anti-American placards and chanted through a loudhailer. Several members of the Muslim groups made anti-American speeches following the flag burning. One said: "You will always face suffering, you will always face humiliation, unless you withdraw your troops from Muslim lands." Another declared that America had been "defeated in Iraq and defeated in Afghanistan".

it's all well and good saying ignore them but it's pretty difficult when they are blatantly being treated differently to how other sections of the community would be if performing similarly. THAT is playing into the hands of racists more than anything.

I actually herd that there was some form of Muslim counter demonstration which is a good sign. That said, this lot have very little to do with faith, and are in reality advocates of a political ideology, like Free Marketeers, Communists or Anarchists. Pretty odd that it should be allowed mind, you could hear it on the service on the BBC, I'm sure public order offences would have been suitable enough to curb it.
As ever, these groups only serve to damage themselves and who they claim to represent. Each and every one who was there will have a huge file on them by now. Unfortunately, however, scenes like this lead to another swathe of the working class becoming confused as to who their enemy is, and joining "Tommy Robinson" (arf arf!) and his ragband crew.

Don't turn this into a racist argument. The people who were campaigning for the Muslims against Crusades were using their right to protest which even though I am opposed to them they are entitled to. Likewise the EDF were using their right to protest. I think both groups are idiots but the publicity they receive is always negative and helps to show what idiotic views and individuals these two groups have. In 50 years time we may have a Muslim Prime Minister. As long as he/she is for the good of the country so what if they are Muslim,Christian,Buddhist or whatever. The majority of Muslims are happy to live day to day in our country but it is the vocal minority that tarnish those.
It's sickening to see, seen it on the news this morning, but the countries gone that way now speak out about it and it's 'racism' the country is a joke.

I'd be amazed if it's surveillance as the reason particularly nowadays. I get the feeling that its either Cameron somewhat keeping his Lib Dem colleagues onside or more likely that he's not quite as far to the right as he promised voters he was....

It'd be unconstitutional for a Muslim to become PM. Also, I live in Mile End and walk down Whitechapel High St. 4/5 times a week, I've NEVER been given any extremist literature of seen it being given out. Those putting Britain down by saying this could only happen here are wrong and all - it happens all over the shop, there's a virilent but small strain of Islam which gets far too much press but which will hopefully be crushed in time

Excellent statement that I completely agree with. I do think though that half the reason these protests are allowed to go ahead is like I said for the benefit of negative publicity. Even the most Liberal Left Winger would agree that to protest on that day outside the American Embassy is despicable.

It's in reference to his general approach to law and order in the wider context. And possibly that could be extended to what his intentions and actions will do when it comes to Europe and in particular, the Human Rights Act.

They're just a minority, the police are now particularly afraid of using any force after a few controversies etc. I'd still rather live in the UK than say, Africa. Perspective.
