I knew a few stewards in the 80s at Chelsea and they were ok, but it was a different era then. They opened the gates at a few games so we could get on the pitch and were our first line of defence when Boro tried to get on the pitch.
I always remember being at the Chels v Leeds game in the 80s, when the scoreboard was smashed up(I think Chelsea were promoted that day). The stewards were giving out their bibs to some of the Chelsea lads who invaded the pitch
They were quality Mac. The boro game we had got on the pitch and a couple of Boro got on the pitch. This was after they had chased the stewards out of their end. These 2 got on and 2 stewards just fronted them and they all started laying into each other.
Great day that Leeds game. Only my second on my own at SB. What an eye opener.
Quote by nefc why would anyone pay for a seat and choose to stand? apart from those tiresome try-hards who follow manchester united.
I don't think anyone pays for the seat. I think the majority pay to watch the match rather than to sit on that piece of uncomfortable plastic shit for an hour and a half.
They are kidding aren't they. His an old geezer unbelievable, thank god someone took film of it, hope he sues them rotten. Bloody disgrace to there profession.

I was in the Boro end that day (mate went up the Chelsea end), absolutely superb day. Pay on the day , 3 o'clock kick off Thought I remembered stewards getting dinged out by Boro then read your post. Remember them trying to break the lock on the gates that opened out on to the pitch, and it being bedlam at the end. Just hundreds and hundreds of loons running round like whirling dervishes going mental. There werent as many stewards in those days, more Plod in the grounds etc. Not enough that day though ! Only 23 years ago.....
