Zitat von Wolves88As soon as i saw the thread title i was going to post The Twang
I'll be honest I fucking love 'em! It just annoys me that utter utter shite bands are so popular and proper talented bands like these lads are largely ignored.
Fuck me, where to start. Felt, Cud, Ultra Vivid Scene, Slint, tindersticks, Strangelove, Wire (although they probably get a bit more recognition these days), Wild Beasts, Fatima Mansions, Mogwai, Husker Du and Sugar.
I used to live in Washington, D.C. and was lucky enough to see these guys play a lot. They're too into drugs these days to do much now, sadly. The Soundtrack of Our Lives was another good call. Definitely didn't get the attention they deserved aside from a short opening slot on an Oasis tour. Criminally underrated in their time was Big Star. Didn't get much praise/attention until the last few years and Chilton died this year, R.I.P. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS6M80aY2KE
Been at every Boston show for Dead Meadow,Love the band, whats going on with the persian rugs? Looked o.k. a year or so ago,and the bass player was sporting a decent pair of adidas on the last album cover.
Not sure if they would fall into this category or not because i dont know how big they are everywhere else, but i know alot of the lads i know havent heard of The Rifles.
Milburn were always good live but on record they couldn't hack it. 3/4 decent songs out of the 20-odd they put down. So much filler. I'd put The Rifles in that bracket too.
I'll add a few more to the mix: Lee 'Scratch' Perry Boards of Canada Six by Seven Amusement Parks on Fire
I saw Milburn support the Rifles a few years ago when they were both new on the scene at Bar Academy in Birmingham. The Rifles were more established but Milburn were fantastic and I really thought they would become big alongside the Arctic Monkeys but their second album was a let down.
I wouldn't say Doves are underated. They are a massive band, sell out tours , successfull record sales etc. Seen them quite a few times live and have to say if you haven't seen them you are missing a treat.
Anyone ever heard of Vinny Vinny? They were around a few years ago but never really took off.
