how did you find the ddr ?
cheers soul bhoy
Spent a couple of hours in there. Pretty interesting museum and made me realise apart from 20th century I didn't really know anything about German history!
Berlin cool place but didn't really click with me the way it does with a lot of people. Would definitely give it a second chance though.
Went to see Union Berlin play in the German second tier. Shocking football and dull as fuck match but was ace standing on a big terrace with a pint. Atmosphere really good and constant throughout but didn't have the raw passion of an English crowd. (Sure lot of people might disagree with me here...) Got a bit tasty with the police outside the social club after the match and it made the news on the U-Bahn next day ha!
And as Soul Boy says, the kebabs are completely different. They actually taste of meat and are delicious. Not something you have to have 10 pints to enjoy.
CCCP Club Tor Str. 136 (Mitte) U-Bahn Rosenthaler Platz
"The only sign that CCCP even exists is a red star above a forbidding steel door on Tor Straße. Ringing the bell, you are met by a Russian doorman dressed as a cowboy. Inside, the club consists of one small room filled with second-hand furniture. A French 1960s caper film plays on one wall, while a DJ plays Russian pop hits from the same decade"
Was over there couple of months back. Great city, found it friendly and fairly easy to get around, spent a lot in taxis. Food wise burgermeister was a highlight for me was like a man vs food style burger! A lot of decent flagship stores, found this shop that had the biggest SI & CP collection I've ever seen, kicking myself I can't remember the name of it. Was at side of one of the centres, just came across it by chance. Left a jacket behind there wish I'd bought it. Tresor is good for a bounce and a bar called White Trash for band music was decent enough. Refused entry at the infamous berghain, I wouldn't even bother trying. Great city though spent a whole day doing the touristy thing. Holocaust memorial is a must, very eary it has a small museum underneath, don't go hungover like I did cause its pretty emotional.
Was there in 2005 and as soon as I arrived I realised that there was a real vibe about the place. I went on a walking tour which described the history of the place right up to the fall of the wall. Fascinating stuff.

there last weekend. couldnt get in the bird and id say generally the food wasnt up to much. found some good bars and did a fair amount of walking around. its a fairly ugly city, but strangely attractive in some ways. the impressive buildings are the ones presumably built as a show of power. it was boiling hot though - horrible hot. thought Firmament was nowt much but 14 oz was brilliant - if i never had me mates with me whining to go somewhere or other id have stayed there a while. weirdly i didnt like the local berliner pilsner - and i like pils - but they had a nice wheat beer. overall the place was quite cheap - i took £150 (180-odd euros) from friday eve till Sunday afternoon and brought 10 euros back. the topography of terror is really good, if fairly harrowing. the city, like the other bits of germany ive been to, has really faced its past head on with that sort of thing. seemed like a young persons place - if you're young and can afford to spend a few weeks there i think you'd love it. i liked it but i think if i go again it'd be for a bit longer as i didnt really see much - it's quite a big place
i lived there for three years, in the spandau area, brilliant brilliant place to live and they knocked some big wall down and that made it even better, been back and forth over the years probably another dozen or so times. i love germany and berlin and hamburg are two of the best cities in the world

I have a 50/50 entrance rate at Ostgut. Always worth trying to get back in, one of the best clubs out there IMO
