Bottom line was the players had no respect for him. When this is the case there's only going to be one head on the chopping board. A shit state of affairs but the Chelsea dressing room have a solid clique built up over the years that will compare every new manager to Mourinho, and if the football outlook is different they will act like little bitches towards the new gaffer. Until these players (who IMO have passed their peak) have been replaced then the club will fall even further behind the title contenders.
Quote by SpenceI get what Steve says with regards to Lampard being angry at being dropped etc, but that isn't the point. You'd expect him to be angry. But you'd also expect him to work his arse off to get back into the team rather than acting childish over the matter. If your boss at work tells you to step it up, you do it. You may not agree but you do it.
Not forgetting that we don't know why Lampard was dropped. I understand he's a Chelsea legend but Roy Keane was a legend at United but once he crossed the manager he was shown the door. So were Stam and van Nistleroy.
that's true but correct me if I'm wrong, was Keane not replaced by young lads (or he spoke out against young lads) coming through who whilst not at his level, needed the games/experience to develop? In Lamps case, he was replaced with lesser able, journeymen footballers who weren't producing. Had they been younger players breaking through, I would have felt differently as would a lot of others I'm sure. I know what you're saying but AVB's handling of these 'big names' was pivotal in the whole ''project'' and whereas Fergie succesfully managed to transition people like Bruce, Robson, McClair, etc...Wenger similarly with his defence, AVB had a confrontation when he needed these players in the short-term.
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."
such as what ? give an example , 'cause I can honestly say I've not seen this .. all I read on here is how he manipulated the press , so when ? body language ? remember him scoring and they all piled into AVB , next game dropped .. work that out , I can't ..
Lamps is ageing , still best midfielder in our club , by far ...

Yeah Keane was criticising the talent of some of the younger lads (he later bought two whilst manager at Sunderland) which is ultimately a criticism of the boss. But that wasn't my point. My point was that any manager should have the power to drop any player at any time and get the backing of the club. If he dropped Lampard for something other than footballing issues then he shouldn't be hung out to dry IMO. This is all hypothetical of course but it is clear there was a problem between the two of them. When you have a situation of a club seemingly backing players over the manager you have no chance, that's all I was trying to say.
Surely there was always going to be massive problems because Lampard and AVB are the same age?
I know if I had been the main man for 10 years and someone, who to be honest, nobody knew anything about the same age as me and wasn't picking me I'd be pissed off too. Just the way it is. That scenario isn't just limited to football either.
Reading BBC thought it was interesting hearing some of the other managers thoughts on the situaiton. Both Redknapp and Fergie felt sorry for the 'lad'. Because thats all he is.
Very rarely disagree with Steve and Glenn on all matters Chelsea but I have to say the players' attitude was paramount in AVB getting the bullet. It's not as if it's the first time the great superstars have stopped playing for a manager, is it? I can think of at least three times. And they took Christmas off again for about the 6th season in a row (check out Chelsea's results over Xmas since about 07)
I think they're an absolute disgrace with their pathetic, childish and utterly unprofessional attitudes. And I'm sorry but I'd put Frank Lampard right up there - do you honestly think Frank wasn't whinging to his lackies like McGarry et al from way back, well before the above mentioned Wolves game? Where do you think this Lampard to United story came from when Frank was on the bench? And whilst we're at it, Frank couldn't see that him playing less could actually extend his career. He has gone down so much in my estimation.
I'm sick of the whole fucking thing, the club is a laughing stock.
we are a laughing stock .. it's embarrassing at how things are unfolding .. from what I hear from the lads close in the club , Di Matteo is regarded in the same light as AVB .. Mourinho + Money + Left alone = half a chance at getting us back to winning ways , and success ..

He playing poorly ?
Ive watched chelsea once this year IIRC, against united when you folded from 3 nil up.....and to be honest his cross to mata at the back post not long after the restart was beckham esque, had i of only seen that and had no access to media or personal opinion i would say he was an amazing player on form......
