It all adds up when you play 20 odd million for a player it's not just the transfer fee it's the add-ons: wages, agent fees, appearance fees, etc. Twenty-million becomes 40 million and if you're buying 2 or three players in that price bracket then we're looking at over 100 mil. What I don't understand is that he let Van Persie go because of wages and then pays Walcott top coin? I think he felt the pressure. Unfortunately, in today's game, money talks. You either spend or get left behind. Look a Citeh. They were nothing until they spent big. If Wenger's waiting for them to implode and then rule the Prem. He has a long wait. He needs to spend big on the odd Marquee player and bring in some youth to balance the squad out. I still think that all they need is to buy a couple of quality defenders and a bulldozer of a Midfielder. Never thought they were the same when Viera left.
I don't think it was a money issue with Van Persie. Walcott decided to stay and Van Persie didn't. Wenger had success playing with strong players like Adams, Viera, Petit etc and then he decided to try and play like Barca. He abandoned the winning formula and he has failed ever since.
I'm not sure what the problem was with Van Persie. Vaguely remember talk of him being disgruntled that Wenger wouldn't pay out for players, then again I thought wages had something to do with it. He needs a couple of players that would 'die' for the cause, instill a bit of grit, determination and fear into the opposition and they might fair better. There was a time when I really feared my team playing Arsenal but now I believe we have a vague chance (I'm a pessimist so I'm never 100%).
If you look at all the Man United teams of the last 20 years, and Chelsea in the Abrahamovich era, they've both had an British backbone to the side. Whether it be Neville/Keane/Scholes or Terry/Lampard/Cole. Arsenal need an Adams or a Parlour, great example few years ago when Da Silva got injured at Birmingham at Gallas just lost the plot completely as captain.
As an outsider looking in, I really don't think they need a massive overhaul of the squad. Just some strong players in key areas and stop fucking about with your Gervinhos and Arshavins. Wenger is so stubborn and if he hasn't changed yet I don't think he ever will.

I'd take graham all day long , fuck all this pretty boy football . Have a defence that will kick the other team off the park, and a striker that can score. Boring football will get ride of the half the cunts in the stands . So yes I do know what I want
