Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been charged by the Football Association following allegations of racism towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
The alleged incident occurred in the match between the two clubs at Anfield in mid-October, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
France international Evra accused Suarez of using racist abuse, although the Uruguayan strenuously denied the claims.
But, following a lengthy investigation, the FA has decided to charge Liverpool's No.7 as a result of events. Charged
The governing body said in a statement on Wednesday: "The FA has today charged Liverpool's Luis Suarez following an incident that occurred during the Liverpool versus Manchester United fixture at Anfield on 15 October 2011.
"It is alleged that Suarez used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra contrary to FA rules.
"It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra.
"The FA will issue no further comment at this time." Talks
Liverpool have received notification of the FA's decision to charge Suarez and they will hold talks with the Uruguayan when he returns to Anfield from international duty.
"The club this afternoon received notification from the Football Association of their decision to charge Luis Suarez and will take time to properly review the documentation which has been sent to us," read a Liverpool statement.
"We will discuss the matter fully with him when he returns from international duty, but he will plead not guilty to the charge and we expect him to request a personal hearing.
"Luis remains determined to clear his name of the allegation made against him by Patrice Evra. The club remain fully supportive of Luis in this matter."

Hardly, Suarez has got off lightly until now. Didn't see one hack or commentator call for Suarez head on a plate unlike Terry. I expect the Liverpool media machine to go into overdrive now trying to spin this story - Chelsea would want to be very careful because with that media machine I fully expect the club or one of the players to be (back ) in the dock come 6 o'clock on Sunday.

If Suarez is proven guilty the FA should punish him severely however if it is not proven the book should be thrown at Evra.It does not matter who you support,i`m not John Terrys biggest fan but he is innocent until proven guilty. Also Liverpool have received documents from the Fa & are studying them & have issued a statement saying they are fully behind Luis Suarez

You've mistaken my meaning. When I mentioned the United/Liverpool forums I meant that the idiots who are siding with either Suarez or Evra simply by what shirt they wear are trivialising racism. And they are.
The rumours are that Suarez has admitted to using the negro/negrito word so if that is the case then I can't see how Evra can be punished. Suarez is saying it is a term used in everyday life in South America and not offensive. My earlier point was why change from English to Spanish and then say it knowing full well it is offensive in Europe. Afterall, Suarez has been in Europe a while so he knows the score.
Even before this, I was sure that suarez is one of the worst players ever to play in britain. What a scumbag.

Disagree here, just because it can't be proven doesn't mean that Evra's automatically made it up - be on very rocky legal grounds there. The whole issue highlights just how partisan football fans can be, reminds me of hearts singing 'two nil to the pedophiles' when they beat us just after the craig thompson incident (showing his cock to a 12 year old on webcam).
