Fucking hell, they hate him already but if he gets rid of the Big Man they'll lynch him!!
No manager ever be in control with him around. Look at Fergie any player gets too big or challenges him he bins them. Always has done all the way back to king Joey Harper. First thing Fergie did when he came to Aberdeen was get rid of him, ruthless. Show them who's in charge. Dressing room at Chelsea run by JT and his muckers.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions

The way things are going, Rafa will be sacked by Easter. Eddie Newton to take over, win the double, gets a 4 year contract and then sacked after loosing in the Community Sheild.

don't forget the signing off Falcao and Suarez in the transfer window....only for both to manage 1 goal between them for the next 5 months (a lucky deflection of Suarez's teeth in the league decider away to Man U which we win 1-0....with 8 men....).

Seriously Glenn, why are you lot so vehement in your hatred of Benitez? Is it the sacking of RDM or summat to do with your semi-finals against that lot? Or do you simply not rate him?
It says on Sky Sports news that the first thing Benitez has to do, is to persuade the Chels faithful that they ll get used to the new Green and White hooped away shirt..

Andy, in the main, for most CFC, it was in reference to his past comments...
"Chelsea is a big club with fantastic players, every manager wants to coach a such a big team. But I would never take that job, in respect for my former team at Liverpool, no matter what. For me there is only one club in England, and that's Liverpool." (2007)
"If Chelsea are naive and pure then I'm Little Red Riding Hood." (2007)
"We don't need to give away flags for our fans to wave - our supporters are always there with their hearts, and that is all we need. It's the passion of the fans that helps to win matches - not flags." (in regards to the 2007 Champions League semi-final between the sides. The quote has been immortalised in a plaque at Liverpool's training ground)
I would also suggest he showed a general disdain for us during his time there and probably was as guilty as Mourinho for perpetuating the recent dislike/hate/etc....between the clubs.
Personally, for me, it's more the fact that he's obviously out and out 'Liverpool', I didn't particularly like how he set his teams up (very defensive for me- even in PL games they should have been steaming) and the appt screams of the owner refusing to believe ladyboy is actually a washed up, self indulgent wasting fucker who was quick to moan to reporters on the plane home from Munich with the CL trophy still warm but has been abysmal this season even though he's been backed to the hilt by the club. (quick digress there ) Also question marks as to how his signings were (maybe not an issue in a 6 month contract) and the fact he blew up and gave a dopey press conference when the league was at their mercy. All in all, mainly football related although have a feeling his old comments might come back to haunt him come sunday.
generally, taking emotion out of it and the shabby (ruthless) nature to how Robbie DM was dispensed with, to be honest, out of the previous 8 managers (and rather than just doing a 'media' and quoting stats), only really only Ancellotti could I argue the toss about.
Ranieri – inherited. How many new owners keep the inherited manager? And would he have won the league with us? No. Not IMO. Mourinho – Personally, loved him. But club got fed up with side show circus. He was damaging the ‘brand’ in the end (in their eyes - e.g. Wenger-voyeur, questioning Ronaldos upbringing, Barca rows, etc...) and towards the end the football wasn't the best in truth. Grant – always interm/temp so not sacked. People only thought he might get an extension by virtue of the CL final but it was always a temp appt. Scolari – clown. Right decision to sack him 100%. Players fitness alone was atrocious according to various sources and reading between the lines of Lampards comments and Hiddinks. Gus – Interim/temp so not sacked. wouldn’t stay permanent. Liked him but he was always going. Not sacked. Carlo – arguably should have been given longer. And had to deal with player interference and having ladyboy and Luiz forced on him. Could slam the board for this one perhaps. Arguable. AVB – clown – 100% right decision. Shouldn’t have been appointed in fairness given his previous role at the club. Went about things the wrong way too. And given we won the CL and FA Cup, decision was well vindicated. RDB – Was supposed to be interim/temp. Wasn’t their first choice but fan power (and Media) and lack of available alternatives 'forced' the club into giving him a 2 year deal. Absolute Chelsea legend but in honesty, he knew he was on borrowed given it took them 6 weeks to give him a deal. And presumably he knew well how the Ruskie operated having been No2 to AVB.
With regards the timing, can only presume either Guardiolas agent is touting him in readiness for next season or possibly more likely, they got worried that the top 4 place was in jeopardy and acted to avoid last seasons scenario. I don't 'blame' Rafa for taking the job and as said above, I don't enjoy how the club acts at times, this being another example with RDM. But I'm also conscious that the PL isn't exactly awash with role model owners either and the Russian isn't the worst despite the ruthlessness and his inability to stop dabbling in team affairs. Real Madrid were sacking CL winning managers long before us so it's nothing new - as it not retaining it (something that no Chelsea I know remotely expected). Is continually sacking managers classless? I've worked in plenty of places where managers who weren't doing the business were gone in no time. The key is remembering that football now IS business. Our business model (if I loosely refer to it as that) flies in the face of the traditional 'we're all in this together/loyal and true' idea. Personally, I think football clubs should be about much more than trophies but going down that road is just regurgitating the cliches about what we hate about the modern game. The current football context is overpaid players ran by greedy business men milking JCL supporters dry all in the name of 'the brand'. So in that context, nothing much should be shocking or surprising. as for Rafa, on the positive, he got the better of Mourinho enough times, can organise, has a very good CV and certainly won't be pally with players. And ultimately, its only for 6 months so....guess I'll have to live with it and watch with interest
and breath

Glenn your in depth opinions about your club are very refreshing, most modern day football fans really couldn't give a fuck about their club, it's just an excuse to get out on the ale.
And Rafa's old comments about Chelsea are brilliant, I'd love to see his reaction if a journo ever brought any of them up in a press conference....

he's doing a press conference right now Ian (I'll watch it later) and I'll be astounded if it's not brought up to be honest. Also, Clatternburg cleared and Mikel charged with misconduct for threatening behaviour....Welcome to Chelsea, Rafa....

Agree totally with 1985casual, it is refreshing to see someone as obviously knowledgable about Chelsea/football being so honest about his club and it's affairs.
Yeah Glenn I'd seen those Rafa quotes knocking about on various forums last night and it looks like he'll pay for those but no doubt those were said to further butter up the Liverpool fans who lapped all that shit up. All he had to do was sing a few lines of YNWA and have a pop at Fergie and he was 'one of them' for life. He has become some kind of icon for the scousers now but let's not forget that most of them wanted him gone at the time. Of course you'll never meet a Liverpool fan now who was all for him being sacked though
I must admit I'm a bit surprised Benitez has accepted such a short contract but I'd imagine he's getting plenty of wedge. The funny thing is that I reckon with time and some money I reckon he'd do very very well for you. He might not produce the most exciting brand of football but you don't win two La Liga titles with Valencia (no matter that most of that squad was inherited) and an European cup with Liverpool, and get to another final if you are a shit manager. Like you said, he can certainly set up a team for one off matches and given a big enough squad I've no doubt he'd get it right in the league as well.
Thing is, with the so-called player power at the Bridge will he get the best out of the current squad? The Inter players weren't too keen on him
Anyway, give those cunts a beating on Sunday will you?

Andy, I agree on the quotes. It was during the Mourinho feuding so no doubt some of that. I think it's probably a combination with everything with most the fans - even his sort of dour personality won't endear too many. I've had many scousers argue the toss on him - the signings for example was basically a result of not being given finances so instead of a top player - he had to settle for the 6th choice - kind of thing. I'm not sure - not close enough to it all to feel I could make an informed judgement but little things like wanting Barry and fucking Alonso off stick in my mind. Then again, so does what seems his genuine support for the Hillsborough campaign which I found a real respect for him after that. as you say, tactically he's definitely astute. Truth be told I dreaded playing his Liverpool and our 4-1 Anfield win was one of the most satisfying in recent years. but he did us twice in the CL semi finals amongst other things. the player power thing....I'm not sure how big it can be under him. Cech could be an almost immediate problem if Rafa insists on the goalkeeping coach (Cech insists on one person as his coach) so that could be a clash right away. But Cashley is looking like going at the end of the season, Lamps possibly in Jan, Drogba already is and then you've Terry who will be captain but I certainly think he has little power base now.
the whole thing seems to have split the fans down the middle. Pro Rafa (well, 'pro' in so much as not 'Anti') and the Anti who are seriously fucked off with RA, the board and Rafa is just a cover picture for it all. Conspiracy theories are rife, such as sacking RDM being a plan of RA's to fuck off the old support so that he can seize control of the Pitch Owners. Can he fuck. We'll be less likely to sell up now. I won't, that's for sure. In fact, I'm fairly sure CPO have already said/hinted as much. Overall, it's tricky...on one hand, the owner who had single handedly given us moments I would never have dreamed could happen, spent millions on players, training facilities, youth programs, ex-player funds and will do on Stadium, 10 trophies - basically the success that many clubs dream off versus the owner who is ultimately responsible for decisions that have been crass, classless, arrogant, interfering, trying to dupe the CPO into selling our shares for a pittance including trying to rig the vote last year. Even when the club has a genuine case in an issue, such is the relationship with the media that it gets spun negativity. Mikels claims for example, on Clattenburg. Blame? it's the player. How can you blame the club when the player is insistent after 2 hours of talking that he was racially abused. The club can't very well try and 'bury' it and risk the fall out of ''Chelsea hide racial claim from black player' headlines. But yet the club has got pillared on the issue rather than the players involved. There's this romantic notion (you've probably entertained it for Utd as well) that the success will dry up, the JCLs and money men will leave and we'll be back in the second div, playing in front of 20,000 genuine blues again. and we'll all be happy as pigs in shit.....But it is just that. A romantic notion. Once you've sold your soul to the devil and tasted the success, in reality there's no going back. And practically, the Russian goes, some other billionaire will come in and could be ten times worse - change our kits to red, move us 100 miles away, siphon off money from the club, hike tticket prices.....anything is possible. And what can you do? RA has plenty of faults but maybe it says more about football that I'd still take (trust?) him quicker than taking the wild card chance on what the next owner will be like.
PS - sunday....would just be us to go and win now

Reading the above post by RamseesCFC and having Tears for Fears' 'Everybody Wants to Rule The World' in the background as never made a post seem more poignant.
Benitez will do a decent job at Chelsea if Roman leaves him to get on with it.
He’s a very tactically astute manager and has some seriously top level talent at his disposal at Stamford Bridge (mainly in attack).
I saw a criticism earlier of him as being too defensive in his team selections, from what I have seen of Chelsea of late a degree of defensive structure and organisation would go a long way. Cahill is a decent player, Sideshow Bob I am less convinced about but then again poor players do not play for the Brazilian national side. Terry I am not a fan of but there can be little doubting what his presence brings to Chelsea as a unit. We had it with Tony Adams in his advancing years, clearly wasn’t the player he once was but his mere presence on the pitch instilled confidence and a degree of calmness to those on the pitch and equally in the crowd.
Could do with another striker though I still think Torres has it in him to be a serious player, presumably Roman will deliver one in January.
Wouldn’t be so sure that Guardiola is on his way next summer all the same, recent appointments at City could suggest he is more likely to go there.

With Benitez I think he is overrated by the scousers and underrated by fans of other clubs. The Alonso/Barry escapade stuck in my mind too and it was Alonso who nearly got them the title after he tried to flog him. Not sure Barry would have had the same impact! I wonder if the Russian will let him spend 'owt in January? It'll certainly be interesting to watch how this all develops from the outside, not so sure how it will play out for you lads though with the divide and stuff.
Yeah United fans wished for a lean spell for years hoping to lose the daytripping megawhore wands but in reality it is all just a pipe dream. Those days are never coming back. We are stuck with Sky, Super Sunday and no doubt soon to be £100 cheapest tickets for the top London clubs.

my reference to the defensiveness was in relation to Liverpool back then. Despite having Carragher playing probably as well as any centre half around back then, they had Alonso, Mascherano and another who I can't remember (Sisoko maybe?) playing in the same team - what essentially we'd call 3 holding midfielders at home to a mid table PL side. That was my point. Put it this way - with Gerard and Carragher in their pomp, Liverpool going well under Rafa, they certainly weren't known for their expansive football. Our current defensive problems would disappear 60% of the way from one move. stop playing Luiz at centre back. Irrespective of Terry, even Ivo and Cahill would be a significantly marked improvement on Luiz and anyone at cb. I like Luiz but Centre back he ain't. Then again, if papers are to be believed and RDM was told to play Torres, who's to say he wasn't told to play Luiz either..... again, seemingly the board made the decision to have basically one striker this season. And to be honest mate, having watched Torres under 3 different managers, he's either shot his bolt or has been going through the motions and taking the piss. He's been backed to the hilt this season in playing every week with no threat to his place, 3 of the most creative players in world football behind him and still he's been absolutely disgraceful in games. can't trap a bag of cement, runs with it when he should pass, passes when he should run, moans, groans, performs 'showmanship runs' - those that look as if he's putting in a shift but in reality its chasing shadows to make it look like he's contributing. Hiding in other words. And I'm saying this as someone who's whole heartedly supported him up until this season. So honestly? I expect a knee jerk reaction of a couple of improved performances before he returns to type.
