Ok I've just heard something about the initial shooting and if it's true I'll wind my neck right in. The bullet that somehow got lodged in the coppers radio was a police issue one. Oh fuck it's going to go off now
Quote by Soul BhoyI can understand, even sympathise, with the rioters in terms of taking on the police. Looting and mindless violence directed at their own communities (and I mean that in terms of area, friends etc and not some idealised happy clappy bullshit community idea) is not on, actually it's disgusting.
Not wanting to appear confrontational or a fan of the filth but can you explain your sympathies and how you understand the rioters? Maybe I have missed something but some drug dealing gun carrying nutjob fires at an armed copper and this somehow justifies this reaction? Am sorry for his kids, but just don't get it.
Has it been confirmed that he shot at the cops or was a drug dealer? I don't think it has.. bit of an unfair assumption at this stage I reckon, it wouldn't be the first time the Police have opened fire without just cause or misunderstanding. (If i'm wrong then fair enough, I've not heard a lot about the actual incident itself)
My sympathy lies with the feeling that a lot of black males are socially excluded in London, almost more so than any other ethnic group. I can understand and sympathise with their frustration and can completely see why this shooting could be a catalyst for them taking to the streets. The Met has been proven to have still have elements of institutional racism and, rightly or wrongly, are viewed with a great deal of mistrust by young black males. The riots are, in my opinion, an indictment of society in poorer London areas.
Not all violence is right, but it does have a place. Riots in the past have highlighted major social flaws in society.. peaceful protests can be swept under the carpet but it's hard for the media and society to ignore it. Not that i'm advocating riots to solve all of societies ills but I'm not one of these types who is first on the condemnation bandwagon when something like this happens. It can be a vehicle for social change, however unpleasant, and i can understand why these riots would start.
Probably went off on a bit of a tangent there buddy, apologies. And like I said, I'd completely condemn mindless vandalism, looting and hangers on who have no interest in having their voices heard.
When pushed, people become scared; people react. Unfortunately, when scared people react, others will act in the same manner to extract personal gain from the situation, claiming that they too, were scared.

That's not quite true though. If you look at the very poorest then Bangladeshis are undoubtedly the worst off in the capital and in terms of access then it's hard to match working class white lads who are constantly overlooked because they don't have community leaders fighting their corner. there are no doubt social tensions in the black community but the rioting over the past couple of days has been totally indulgent in my view. It's easy to blame the police and society at large but the bigger issue is the gang culture that has sprung up in certain boroughs and is pandered to by the media and middle classes who think that because they've watched the Wire they understand what's going on in places like Tottenham.
I can't believe some of the shite I'm reading on here. Sympathy and understanding? Fuck off. In what way is setting fire to and looting peoples homes and businesses acceptable? Make no mistake, these people are scum. I am no fan of the police but I hope the Met's finest batter these fuckers all over the place.

Not a chance. If the police use anything other than kid gloves you'd have wankers like Diane Abbott and other 'community leaders' getting stuck into the Met. Articles like this are boiling my piss right now http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/lola-ade...-_b_920542.html
No wonder NO Firm has come down our place since Cardiff in the CC years ago. We don't fuck about you know?? Every inner city borough now is fucked, Tottenham this weekend, where next Toxteth, Brixton, Handsworth, Oldham, Bradford etc, etc. OB should use water cannons, cs gas, rubber bullets. Protest is ok but riot fuck off!!! If you'd bothered to actually read my posts I said i completely condemned "setting fire to and looting peoples homes and businesses".
Make a lot of good points Sauzee88, and a lot of it has been indulgent.
Load of bollocks, making a point is all fair enough, smashing up and burning down your own area is just stupidity. Some fuckwit even tweeted a photo of himself with all his loot on fucking twitter! Hope he enjoys prison, the youth of today are fucking woeful.
Quote by WrightyLatest i heard was they ransacked McDonalds and were frying their own hamburgers. That was serious btw.
The High Road is fucked apprently, smashed to bits, going to cost hundreds to put right.
Still good on em i say, I'm cheering the fuckers on.....burn Tottenham burn.

Quote by ryanWhy aren't the polis shooting them with tear gas and bean bags?
What I was thinking, started up in other areas again tonight now, think the are scared of going in heavy handed, after all the bad media, they had with the G riot
People are angry, frustrated, without jobs, no perspective in their life ... and at some point all the potential this has breaks out in blind violence and mindless riots, which dynamic becomes independent. I can understand why such things happend and i understand the people doing it, but no doubt it's sad and disgusting to see people burning the houses and robbing shops in their own neighbourhood.
