Quote by RVP's Left FootIts about time police started getting heavy. Some of the low life deserve a good hiding. What happens when most of them get arrested night in the cells , charged and then a slap on the wrists.
Police in other countries don't fuck about. In many other countries the police would have been out with guns etc.
If the police were going to get heavy, they should have done it from the start though, instead of standing idly by while a bunch of goons smashed up and set fire to people's shops and houses. Without a doubt. Getting stuck into a couple of kids out riding there bikes... It's just pathetic and, as stated, will only worsen an already volatile situation.
Quote by VotedockerDidnt mean it to sound like a competition, but a few scrotes getting a clip is hardly shocking in the scheme of what was going on is it
It is pretty shocking when you consider that they are in a position of responsibility and they the people who are meant to prevent such incidents. Yes, there has been a lot of horrible shit going down, but surely the police handing out what appears to be random beatings in the street to boys is only going to worsen an already volatile situation.
I think the overly softly-softly approach in the initial stages is what worsened the situation. I understand (and agree ) that they shouldn't be wading in batons drawn at any opportunity . But standing back watching people playing up just encourages others. Once it started kicking off they should have nipped it in the bud, disorder has a habit of taking on a life of its own at times. Might have been a bit late in proceedings but you have to start somewhere

I agree with this. I think the police were slow to act, too, however, I kinda find it understandable. It's unfortunate, but police have to do their jobs in different ways for different situation. For example; the police are particularly heavy handed at football matches. Why? Well, first of all, they have public support. It's sad, but the majority of the public will see a "soccer thug" taking a beating, and believe they deserved it. There are also class implications - people at football matches, more often than not, aren't the sons or daughters of lawyers. Place that in contrast with, say, the G7 riots. Middle class, affluent, rioters who have a lot of clout should anything come near to the idea of "police brutality". The police had to find a middle ground between these two; a lot of media attention, for instance, I'm sure made them fear their livelihood should they be recorded acting in a questionable manner. We all know the police had the power to nip this in the bud, even I, who very rarely goes to football matches, have been on the receiving end of some questionable policing, yet they didn't use it. It has to be down to poor leadership. Your average police officer, as any man, is scared to loose his job, and in the absence of firm leadership backing him up, he will not act.
So Alex bearing in mind your hatered for the OB who would you have called if rioters and or looters had attacked your home or business ? The Ghostbusters maybe ?
Just read through all this having away from the forum for sometime, really good points made here! Littered with a couple of stupid childish "I'm the big man" throw aways. Fact is there is no excuse for these situations arising. People complain of not having a job......I know let's burn down surrounding shops and factories/ warehouses. I never had fuck all when I was a kid, but got off my arse and changed that myself. You have to make your own oppertunities in life rather than wait for someone to knock on your door and give you one. Society has gone to the dogs! Quite frankly nothing short if a chopper and .50 cal would of solved the problem......would have also saved shit loads on benefit fraud too. On a more adult note, the police in my area are friendly, fair and helpful. Irrespective of creed or colour. Fact is it's a persons personality that maketh the idiotic racial clown not an organisation of which they are part of. I've had bad experiences with civvies when I was in the army, doesn't mean I think all civvies or pricks, infact any as it's the person in question. There is NO justification for this behaviour at all, first seeing on the news I thought it was Syria for fuck sake not a well established, well known Member of the EU. It's sad really.........

I wouldn't have called anyone. I would have stood outside my home/business with a golf club, seriously. A number of shop owners did just this and it seemed to be far more effective than the police.
